Octopus group counselling

Our group counselling is mainly for clients struggling with loss and bereavement.
Loss can be about all sorts of things – partners and lovers, health, happiness or many other things that we have loved and lost. This group brings people together to share their thoughts and feelings, to hear the experiences of others, and to receive support and companionship when you are at a low point in your life.
Octopus groups start in January, March, May, September and November each year, and each group lasts for up to 8 weeks. A group has a maximum of 8 members, and each group meeting lasts for 90 minutes. Clients can go on from one group to the next if they wish to – because there is no timetable for grief or distress.
It takes as long as it takes to start feeling more like yourself again.
We limit the number of members for a group so that everyone who wants to join in can have a chance to speak at a session, and new members can join the group in weeks 1 and 2. We found that bringing in new members after that was not always successful, as the group develops its own momentum and new people can find it less useful. It’s easier to join when everyone is new!
